On June 18 -19th, The Second Annual Western NY Collaborative Plein Air Expo
was held at Mendon Ponds Park. Sponsored by the Buffalo Fine Arts League,
The Buffalo Society of Artists, Greater Rochester Plein Air Painters, Pastel Society of
Western New York, and Rochester Art Club, the weekend event was well attended.
Several folks from the Buffalo area art groups made the trip. Saturday was a day
packed with demonstrations. Working from a photographic reference, Pat Tribastone
demonstrated her approach in pastel inside the East Lodge. Kari Ganoung Ruiz
braved the chilly day and completed an oil painting en plein air for expo attendees
to watch. The afternoon was rounded out with a demo in acrylic by George Grace
and a watercolor demo by Paul Martin. Throughout the event, a vendor display by
Rochester Art Supply allowed artists to check out the “tripod and easel petting zoo.”
Easels and tripods were set up and artists were encouraged to check them out and
ask questions. On Sunday, several artists returned to the park to paint.
